L'Internet Architecture Board est un comité de l'Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) désigné par l'Internet Society (ISOC) chargé des orientations architecturales à long terme, des procédures d'appel lors du processus de normalisation et de diverses autres tâches.

C'est l'IAB qui se charge des déclarations solennelles comme les RFC 3869 (“IAB Concerns and Recommendations Regarding Internet Research”) ou le 1984 (“IAB and IESG Statement on Cryptographic Technology”). Rares sont les RFC signés par l'IAB, ce statut est réservé à ceux jugés comme méritant un statut particulier.

Les diverses autres tâches de l'IAB sont par ailleurs de:

• approuver les nominations proposées par le Comité de Nomination de l'Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG).
• Examiner en appel les requêtes contre certaines décisions de l'IESG.
• Approuver la nomination de l'Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) (ajourd'hui sous le contrôle de l'Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)).
• Conseiller l'Internet Society (ISOC).
• Encadrer les relations de l'IETF avec les autres organismes de standardisation.

The IAB is responsible for defining the overall architecture of the Internet, providing guidance and broad direction to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The IAB also serves as the technology advisory group to the Internet Society (ISOC), and oversees a number of critical activities in support of the Internet.

The IAB is chartered both as a committee of the IETF and as an advisory body of the Internet Society. Its responsibilities include architectural oversight of IETF activities, Internet Standards Process oversight and appeal, and the appointment of the RFC Editor. The IAB is also responsible for the management of the IETF protocol parameter registries.
